Japan is second only to the USA concerning investments into science and technology. For over 10 years, R&D investments exceeded 3 % of her GDP, with over 60 % of this budget spent by industry. There are more than 800 Japanese companies involved in bioresearch and biobusiness, including some 600 small and medium enterprises. About 100 public universities (now on their way to privatization), more than 50 government research centers and a large number of bioresearch institutions organized in public-private partnership contribute to a scientific output of more than 10 % of the world's scientific literature, and 18 % of the global patent applications. Long-term Research Associations uniting companies and public research groups are a special feature of innovative research in Japan. Bio4Business is bridging this gap by providing an up-to-date window to biotechnology R&D and biobusiness in Japan, geared to the needs of her partners within a privileged partnership.
